Anchorage police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 3-year-old child at a home in South Anchorage.
Police got a call around noon reporting the shooting, which happened on the 4000 block of Olympic Terrace Circle, according to an Anchorage Police Department press release.
"Police and medics responded to the scene where medics pronounced the 3-year-old deceased," spokeswoman Jennifer Castro wrote in the release.
The shooting is under investigation and more information will be released as it becomes available, Castro said.
At the scene, a medical examiner vehicle, an ambulance, several police vehicles and APD's crime scene van were parked near the end of a cul-de-sac. Yellow crime scene tape cordoned off the yard between two homes.
Kathy Frishe, who lives in the neighborhood, said police started showing up shortly after noon. She said she hadn't heard commotion or a gunshot.
