Whaling crews of Barrow brought in at least three bowhead whales this week in the autumn hunt. Men of all ages and a few women gathered to butcher them on Monday as children played on the carcass.
The whale blubber and meat is cut into large slabs and divided among the crews and the community.
The bowheads can top 60 feet in length and weigh up to 60 tons.
