UPDATE, 2 p.m. Saturday: Kevin Mitchell's truck was found Saturday south of Girdwood and searchers are scouring the area.
On the eve of Kevin and Nicole Mitchell's 11th wedding anniversary, Kevin had been missing for two days and Nicole was left searching for him and trying to stay strong for their children.
At about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Kevin Mitchell drove to his South Anchorage home, where a cleaning lady was working. He said hello, then traded his Municipal Light and Power vehicle for his personal 2012 gray Toyota Tundra pickup, his wife Nicole Mitchell said.
Kevin Mitchell left his lunch -- an untouched turkey sandwich -- and his wallet, complete with his credit cards and ID, in his work vehicle.
"He hadn't been feeling well lately; he had been having some medical issues," Nicole Mitchell said. "He was having some anxiety about his health issues. I think maybe he was not in a clear state of mind."
Nicole Mitchell wouldn't go into the specifics of her husband's health issues, but said he was not taking any medication at the time of his disappearance.
Where Kevin Mitchell went when he left the family home was still unclear Thursday night.
"He loved the outdoors, so that would be my best guess," Nicole Mitchell said.
She said they have property at Nancy Lake and Seldovia. His parents have property in Cooper Landing.
Nicole Mitchell said actions like this aren't common for her husband, whom she described as being a "super great husband" and "super father" to their 7- and 9-year-old children.
"He was the best I could have ever imagined."
Dozens of people have joined the search, including many of Kevin's co-workers. The family is still hoping to get help from local pilots who are willing to do aerial searches.
"There (are) a lot of people who really want to help find Kevin. It just shows the goodness in people," Nicole Mitchell said.
Anchorage Police Department spokeswoman Renee Oistad said a notice has been attached to his name and car in state systems.
"If either he or his vehicle are run by any law enforcement entity throughout the entire state, they will see that his family is looking for him," Oistad said.
Nicole Mitchell thinks the last outfit her husband was wearing was blue jeans, a black fleece jacket, a gray T-shirt and a baseball cap with the word "Alaska" on it. The license plate of his truck is GJA696.
A $10,000 reward is also being offered for a confirmed discovery of Kevin Mitchell. Half of the money comes from Nicole Mitchell's employer, Davis Constructors & Engineers Inc. The other half is being donated by Alcan Electric.
