The Anchorage area is in for another round of strong winds starting Friday night and lasting through much of this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
The agency issued a high wind watch for Anchorage and surrounding areas that is in effect from Saturday night through Sunday afternoon. According to the weather service, back-to-back systems will bring high winds to the area, with the second system over the weekend being “the primary concern.”
The first system on Friday night could result in wind gusts of around 50 mph for parts of the Anchorage Hillside, the agency said. The second system has higher potential to bring potentially damaging winds to the entire city.
Multiple systems are expected to impact Southcentral this weekend, resulting in a Flood Watch, High Wind Watch, and a Winter Weather Advisory being issued for different locations across the region. Over the weekend, the weather service is calling for southeast winds of 45 to 65 mph. Gusts of up to 100 mph are possible on the Hillside, and wind gusts upward of 70 mph are expected at lower elevations.
The wind may “move loose debris, damage property, and cause power outages,” the weather service said.
