Anchorage’s first official snowfall of the season tapered off early Thursday and isn’t likely to last long, with the forecast calling for rising temperatures and rain to end the week.
The snow began falling Wednesday evening, dropping 1.2 inches near Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport by Thursday morning, said Michael Kutz of the National Weather Service. Slick roads overnight led to at least one report of a rollover on the Parks Highway in Mat-Su that caused minor injuries, according to the Houston Fire Department.
For Anchorage, Mat-Su Valley, Glen/Seward Hwy, and Kenai Peninsula folks: As you head out for your morning commute, please be aware that some slick spots may have developed overnight due to light snow and temperatures in the low 30s. #AKwx

Oct. 16 is the average day for Anchorage’s first snowfall, so while today’s snow was a few days early, it’s not unusual, Kutz said.
Rain was forecast to fall Thursday night and decrease into Friday, he said. A low-pressure system is expected to bring another chance for rain on Saturday.
