Anchorage police are warning of "extremely slick roads" early Wednesday and urging motorists to be extra-cautious during the morning commute.
Police dispatchers said a number of vehicles had slid off the Glenn Highway, which was scheduled to be sanded overnight Tuesday. Between midnight and 6 a.m. Wednesday, police responded to 11 vehicles in distress, two non-injury accidents and two accidents with injuries.
National Weather Service forecasts for Anchorage and the Mat-Su called for about an inch of snow overnight, followed by more snowfall during the day Wednesday.
NWS meteorologist Michael Kutz said that 1.8 inches of snow was recorded by 6 a.m. at the Weather Service's Anchorage offices.
