Alaskans formed long lines at polling places around the state on "Super Tuesday" to cast votes for the Republican nominee for president, with some registering as Republicans on the spot.

Five candidates appeared on the Alaska ballot: retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and New York billionaire Donald Trump. Polls stayed are open until 8 p.m.

Anticipating a high turnout, the Alaska Republican Party printed 25,000 ballots for Tuesday's poll, party officials said. About 14,100 people voted in the last presidential preference poll in 2012.
