Bodies of 2 men missing since late July recovered from Kuskokwim River near Akiak

The bodies of two men who went missing after their boat capsized on the Kuskokwim River near Akiak in late July have been recovered.

Alaska State Troopers said this week that Bethel Search and Rescue recovered the body of 31-year-old Robert Lott, of Akiak, from the river below Akiachak on Aug. 28. Troopers last month said a boater found the body of 28-year-old David Alexie Jr, of Tuluksak, just downriver from Akiak.

The two men and a woman left Bethel in a 16-foot Lund on July 27 to head to Akiak, troopers said at the time. The boat began taking on water near Akiak and overturned, they said.

The woman, who wasn’t injured, grabbed a tree limb and rescued herself, troopers said, but the men could not be found. None of the people in the boat were wearing a life jacket, they said.
