McGrath woman killed in ATV crash

A 33-year-old McGrath woman died Saturday after the all-terrain vehicle she was riding went off a road in McGrath and crashed into a stand of trees, Alaska State Troopers said.

Katie Tall was alone on the ATV when it left the road and “collided with multiple trees at a high rate of speed,” troopers said Monday. It wasn’t immediately clear what may have caused the ATV to go off the road, troopers spokesman Austin McDaniel said. The crash is believed to have occurred between 2:30 and 3 p.m., he said.

Troopers were notified of the crash just after 3:15 p.m. Saturday and responded to the area, they said. Tall was declared dead at the scene.

The State Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy.
