Search underway for Interior Alaska man missing on the Yukon River

Search efforts continued Tuesday for an Interior Alaska man reported overdue on the Yukon River last weekend, Alaska State Troopers said.

Robert Peter, 46, left Circle around 2 p.m. Friday in a 20-foot boat with at least one dog and has not been seen since, troopers said.

Peter, who lives in Fort Yukon, was in Circle for a festival, said troopers spokesman Tim DeSpain. He was expected in Fort Yukon or to return to Circle by Friday evening, DeSpain said. There were clear skies and light wind in the area on Friday.

Fort Yukon is roughly 60 miles northwest of Circle.

Boat and air searches began Saturday after Peter was reported overdue and continued into Tuesday, DeSpain said. Alaska Wildlife Troopers on Monday conducted a search by air upriver of Circle, the agency said. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Civil Air Patrol and local search and rescue crews are assisting, troopers said.

Search efforts on Tuesday were focused near 22 Mile Slough, DeSpain said.

Troopers asked anyone with information about Peter’s whereabouts to contact their Fairbanks office at 907-451-5100.
