Searchers over the weekend recovered the body of a 52-year-old Ambler man overdue since last week after his snowmachine went through ice on a Northwest Alaska river.
Alaska State Troopers said Alvin Williams left his home village alone on a snowmachine around 3 a.m. Thursday and headed for the village of Kobuk about 35 miles away. Searchers found Williams’ snowmachine submerged in the Kobuk River along the ice trail about a mile south of Kobuk, but Williams remained missing for several days.
Troopers were notified Sunday at 12:15 a.m. that Williams’ body had been recovered, according to an online update posted Monday.
