The Army’s 11th Airborne Division Arctic Angels on Tuesday celebrated the anniversary of the division’s activation in Alaska with Angel Rendezvous Week activities at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage and Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks.
About 400 paratroopers jumped from CH-47 Chinook helicopters at Malemute Drop Zone on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, as the 11th Airborne Division Arctic Angels celebrate the anniversary of the division's activation in Alaska.
While packing up his parachute, Staff Sgt. Austin Cattera said, “Chinook jumps are like the hidden gem of jumps when it comes to airborne operations.”
Back on the ground, U.S. Army Sgt. Brianna Tapia said, “I was smiling at the jump master as I was ready to exit the ramp. It was awesome except for landing in the mud. I’m still smiling. It was a good day.”
