Man shot after breaking into Wasilla home with ax and threatening to kill resident, troopers say

A 66-year-old man was shot and injured after he entered a Wasilla woman’s house by force with an ax and threatened to kill her Friday night, Alaska State Troopers said.

Troopers and Wasilla police responded to a reported shooting and home invasion at a house off Fairview Loop at 10:04 p.m. Friday, troopers said in an online report Saturday.

The homeowner, a 55-year-old woman, shot the man with a pistol after he entered her home and made threats, according to troopers. He was taken to a hospital, where he underwent surgery for non-life-threatening injuries, troopers said.

Troopers did not identify the homeowner or the alleged intruder in the report. The man was intoxicated when he forced his way into the home, troopers said.

No charges will be filed against the homeowner, but the investigation regarding potential burglary and assault charges against the hospitalized suspect is ongoing, according to troopers.
