A 5-year-old boy was seriously injured when the car he was a passenger in crashed in the Butte area Saturday, trapping him underneath.
Alaska State Troopers were called to the scene of a single car crash at the intersection of the Old Glenn Highway and Smith Road at 6:45 p.m. on Saturday. Three adults and two children were there, with one child “pinned underneath the vehicle,” troopers wrote in a statement.
“Troopers and EMS eventually were able to free the child from underneath the vehicle and life saving efforts were initiated by awaiting EMS crews,” the statement said.
The boy was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, troopers said. The other people at the scene sustained less serious injuries.
“At this time it does not appear that seat belts were worn by the occupants of the vehicle and alcohol appears to be a contributing factor in this collision.”
The Bureau of Highway Patrol is investigating, troopers wrote.
