One dead in head-on collision on Parks Highway north of Willow

One person was dead after a head-on collision involving two motor vehicles at Mile 89 of the Parks Highway on Friday morning, according to Alaska State Troopers. The highway was closed for several hours and was reopened as of about 4:40 p.m.

Troopers, EMS and state park rangers responded to the collision just after 11 a.m., troopers spokesman Tim DeSpain said in an email. A 2016 Toyota Camry “struck” a 2002 Chevy pickup, DeSpain said.

A LifeMed helicopter was on the scene as of about 1:30 p.m. Three people were transported with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries, DeSpain said.

Mile 89 is between Willow and Talkeetna.
