One woman died Tuesday and another was seriously injured in a head-on collision in North Pole, Alaska State Troopers said.
The two women were northbound around 4 p.m. in a Nissan Rogue on Badger Road and attempting to turn left onto Kendall Avenue when a Chevy Silverado collided with their vehicle, troopers spokesman Tim DeSpain said.
The woman driving the SUV was brought first to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, then medevaced to Anchorage for treatment of life-threatening injuries, troopers said. The person killed in the collision was a passenger in the SUV.
The driver of the pickup suffered minor injuries, troopers said. There was no one else in either of the vehicles, DeSpain said.
Troopers were continuing to investigate the cause and circumstances of the collision, he said Wednesday.
The road was closed for roughly three hours.
