The Anchorage School District warned parents Thursday about a bear that had been spotted near Government Hill Elementary School around pickup time.
District spokeswoman Morgan DuClos said the Anchorage Police Department was looking for the bear, which was spotted by group of students walking back from a field trip along Bluff Drive sometime before 3:21 p.m.
Police said the black bear didn’t appear to be bothering anyone. Officers responded but hadn’t found the bear as of 3:50 p.m., police said.
School staff will escort children who walk home across the bridge there, but bus service and car pickups are not affected, DuClos said.
“Everybody is good and safe," she said.
