Anchorage woman charged in Muldoon gunfire incident that prompted hourslong standoff

An Anchorage woman is facing several felony charges after she was accused of shooting at nearby houses and at police who responded to her Muldoon home earlier this week.

No one was wounded when Lynda McRae fired numerous rounds from her home on Monday evening, although McRae struck several residences, according to a summary of police reports filed Tuesday with charges.

Police said they responded to Jelinek Place just after 6 p.m. on Monday because shots were being fired from a home. McRae, 69, fired at officers when they arrived and struck several homes, including a shot that went through her neighbor’s wall while the woman was in the home, the summary said.

The police department’s Mobile Intervention Team, which pairs an officer with a mental health clinician to respond to calls, has interacted with McRae for several months, the summary said. She had called police more than 300 times so far this year and had reportedly threatened to shoot at homeless camps or homeless people in the area, according to the summary.

Police called a SWAT team to the home and eventually arrested McRae several hours later.

During an interview with detectives, McRae said she didn’t know anything about the shots that were fired, the summary said. She told the detectives she considered one of her neighbors her enemy because the neighbor was helping homeless people in the area, according to the summary.

Police found “several firearms and ammunition (spent and unspent)” in McRae’s home, the summary said. She also told the detective she had some rifles, but denied having handguns, it said.

McRae is facing felony charges of misconduct involving a weapon, third-degree assault and a misdemeanor count of misconduct involving a weapon. She appeared in court Tuesday and has been released from custody on $1,000 bail.

McRae could not immediately be reached Thursday and an attorney was not yet listed in court records for her.
