Troopers say 2 detained following search that briefly shut down Parks Highway

PALMER — Alaska State Troopers said two people have been detained after fleeing officers earlier Tuesday morning in the Houston area, prompting a major search and closure of the Parks Highway.

The highway reopened around 1 p.m., according to an update posted by troopers. The Alaska Bureau of Investigation has assumed case responsibility, and additional information will be released when it becomes available, troopers said.

The highway was closed in both directions at Mile 56 in Houston for about two hours.

Troopers in an online post Tuesday morning said they and the Wasilla Police Department were “actively searching for a person they believe is armed and dangerous” in the area of Millers Reach Road and the highway. They encouraged residents to lock their doors, stay inside and contact troopers at 907-352-5401 if they noticed anything suspicious.

The highway was closed between West King Arthur Drive and West Cheri Lake Drive.

This is a developing story that will be updated.
