Man found shot to death in Spenard neighborhood

A 36-year-old man was shot and killed in Anchorage’s Spenard neighborhood Sunday afternoon, police said.

No arrests had been made by Monday morning, but police said they were following up on leads.

Officers were called to the 3700 block of McCain Loop, near the intersection of Minnesota Drive and Spenard Road, around 1:40 p.m. on a report of an unconscious man, police said. Officers found Joseph Siufanua unresponsive with a gunshot wound to his upper body, they said. He died at the scene.

Police on Monday said they believe the shooting was “an isolated incident and not random.” There was no suspect information to release and the motive and any relationship between Siufanua and the shooter remained under investigation, they said.

Police asked anyone with information about the shooting or surveillance footage of the area to call dispatch at 311, option #1, or 907-786-8900, option #0.
