16-year-old boy fatally shot in Northeast Anchorage, police say

A 16-year-old boy died at the hospital after he was shot Tuesday night in Northeast Anchorage, police said.

Officers were called to the 400 block of Price Street just before 8:40 p.m. for a report of gunfire and found the teen with gunshot wounds to his upper body, the Anchorage Police Department said.

The department’s crime scene team responded to the area and processed the scene until nearly 6 a.m. Wednesday, police said. Thompson Avenue was closed at the intersection with Price Street during the investigation.

A spokeswoman for the department did not answer questions Wednesday morning, including if there were any arrests, if police had identified a suspect or if there was any public danger. The department did not include those details in an update early Wednesday afternoon.

Police have identified the teen who died and notified his family, they said. Per policy, the department does not publicly identify juvenile victims.

Police urged anyone with surveillance footage or information about the shooting to call dispatch at 311, option 1 or 907-786-8900, option 0. Anonymous tips can be submitted at anchoragecrimestoppers.com.

This is the third homicide in Anchorage this week. Treyndon Lewis, 42, was fatally shot near Thompson Avenue and North Bunn Street on Friday, and another man, who police had not identified by Wednesday, was shot and killed near East Sixth Avenue and San Juan Circle early Tuesday.
