Police warn that Anchorage DJ charged in sex abuse case could have other victims

Anchorage police this week warned that a DJ and rapper indicted on sex abuse of a minor and other charges last week may have abused other minors.

Marcus Mewborn, 29, was indicted Thursday on two counts of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor and one count each of unlawful exploitation of a minor and possession of child pornography. The charges stem from an incident reported to police in February 2023, the department said.

Mewborn went by the stage name “DJ Marco” or “Mac,” police spokeswoman Renee Oistad said Wednesday. Through that work, police said Mewborn “had access to underage girls” and detectives are concerned there may be additional victims.

Oistad said Mewborn was “primarily doing temp work and was working as a DJ on the side.” She did not have information about what years he was working as a DJ or locations where he performed.

Oistad did not answer a question about why police believe there may be additional victims and said she could not comment on how the victim in the case Mewborn is currently charged in became acquainted with him.

Mewborn remained in custody at the Anchorage Correctional Complex on Wednesday afternoon. Assistant public defender Timothy Ayer, who is representing Mewborn, declined to comment on the case when reached by phone.

Police asked anyone who believes they may have been victimized by Mewborn to call Detective Daniel Koch at 907-786-2477 or email him at Daniel.Koch@anchorageak.gov.
