Anchorage man called police to report he fatally stabbed his friend, charges say

A man killed his friend Sunday in a West Anchorage apartment, charges filed in the case say.

Cecil Skipper, 33, called 911 just after noon Sunday and told dispatchers he had strangled and stabbed his best friend inside an apartment on the 2700 block of West 32nd Avenue, according to a sworn affidavit written by officer Orean Yi. He told dispatchers the man was already dead, it said.

During a later interview, Skipper told investigators he killed his friend because “he thought by doing so it would give him power,” the affidavit said. He called police about 10 or 15 minutes after killing the man, the affidavit said.

Skipper is charged with first-degree murder and scheduled to appear in court Monday afternoon. Police have not yet publicly identified the man who was killed.

Skipper also had an outstanding warrant on separate charges of vehicle theft and robbery from an incident Saturday when he was accused of stealing a truck from a stranger, according to charges filed in that case.
