Man dead after East Anchorage shooting, police say

A man was killed in a shooting overnight in East Anchorage, and police said Saturday that they were looking for a suspect.

Few details were immediately available. Police said in a summary posted online that they were called to the 400 block of North Bliss Street, near Mountain View Drive, shortly after 3 a.m. on reports of shots fired. A man was found in an alley with a gunshot wound to his upper body, police said. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead, police wrote.

The victim wasn’t immediately identified.

Police said they searched the area for a suspect but weren’t successful.

“While the motive for the shooting is still under investigation, information gathered thus far indicates this is an isolated incident and not a random event,” police wrote. “There is no specific suspect description currently available for release.”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police dispatch at 311 (option 1), to call 907-786-8900 (press “0″) or reach out anonymously to Crime Stoppers at anchoragecrimestoppers.com.
