Police investigating assault at Sullivan Arena

Police say they are investigating an assault in the area of Sullivan Arena on Tuesday afternoon that left a man with life-threatening injuries to his upper body.

Officers responding to a report of the assault at the arena just after 1 p.m. found the injured man outside the building, according to an online update. He was transported to a hospital.

The arena houses the municipality’s emergency homeless shelter. No information was immediately available about the nature of the assault or who was involved.

Police said that detectives had contacted “everyone believed to be involved in this investigation” and were not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident. No charges had been filed as of late Tuesday afternoon and there is “no current public safety threat related to this incident,” they said.

A police spokeswoman on Tuesday evening said the department had no further information to release due to the ongoing investigation.
