A California man was arrested Monday on charges alleging he exchanged nearly 2,000 sexually explicit messages with an Alaska teen.
David Orellana is currently in custody in California’s Mendocino County awaiting extradition to Alaska, where troopers said he’s facing eight charges related to child pornography.
Investigators said they discovered in early January that 56-year-old Orellana initiated a sexually explicit conversation with a teen from Naknek and exchanged more than 1,900 texts with the girl, troopers wrote in an online statement.
A grand jury indicted Orellana at the end of March on six charges of distribution of indecent material to a minor and one count each of online enticement and possession of child pornography.
An investigator from Alaska’s technical crimes unit traveled to Fort Bragg, California, on Monday and arrested Orellana with assistance from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office, troopers said. He was in custody Tuesday in California while the extradition order was processing.
