A woman was shot and killed late Thursday in a Midtown Anchorage parking lot during an altercation, police said.
Officers responding just before 10 p.m. to a residential property in the 3100 block of Cheechako Street, near Benson and Arctic boulevards, found the woman dead, the Anchorage Police Department said in an online alert.
A preliminary investigation found there was “some kind of altercation in the parking lot between the female victim and two other people,” police said in an update. The altercation escalated into gunfire.
Police say they detained several people for questioning but had filed no charges as of about noon Friday. Two people were arrested on outstanding felony warrants: 19-year-old Thomas West and 23-year-old Jayhra Demings.
An investigating is continuing, police said, calling it an isolated incident. The victim’s name will be released after next-of-kin are notified.
