Man tried to bring over $100K of drugs and alcohol to dry community in Western Alaska, troopers say

An Elim man tried to smuggle in more than $100,000 worth of drugs and alcohol into his dry Western Alaska community, troopers said.

A tipster notified troopers on Monday that 31-year-old Samuel Davis had bought alcohol, marijuana and dabs — a marijuana concentrate — while in Anchorage, troopers wrote in an online report. He planned to sell the substances in Elim, which bans the import and sale of alcohol, troopers said.

On Wednesday, troopers said, they were granted a search warrant and found more than 5 gallons of distilled spirits, more than 2 pounds of marijuana and nearly 1 1/2 pounds of dabs in Davis’ home. Troopers estimated that the items were worth about $125,750 combined in street value.

They also seized Davis’ 17-foot Key Largo 170 boat, which was used to transport the items, troopers said.

Davis was arrested on charges including misconduct involving a controlled substance and alcohol importation, troopers said. He is being held at the Anvil Mountain Correctional Center in Nome.
