Wasilla man arrested in mother’s death turned himself in with bloody hands and gun

A 38-year-old Wasilla man was arrested on murder charges Tuesday after he showed up at the Wasilla police station and said he’d hurt a family member.

Denys Abramov came to the station around 4 a.m. and contacted an officer in the parking lot, police said.

“He was found to be in possession of a handgun and appeared to have fresh blood on his hands," they said in a statement released Tuesday afternoon.

A search located the body of 60-year-old Olha Abramova in the area of Bogard Road and Dellwood Avenue, police said. Abramova had a single gunshot wound to the chest and was dead when officers arrived.

She is Abramov’s mother, Wasilla police spokeswoman Amanda Graham said. He gave officers a general area in which to find her, but there was a “bit of a language barrier" initially, Graham said.

Abramov was jailed at Mat-Su Pretrial Facility on charges of second-degree murder and weapons misconduct.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Wasilla Police Department at 907-352-5401 or Crime Stoppers at 907-745-3333 and reference case number 19-2866.
