Woman found dead in stolen car, Anchorage police say

A woman was found dead Thursday morning in a stolen car parked in an industrial part of Mountain View, Anchorage police said. Police are investigating her death as a homicide.

On Saturday, police identified the victim as Lanycha Zimmer, 27.

Around 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Anchorage police received a report of a body found in a parked car on the 500 block of Sitka Street, according to an alert. Patrol officers found the woman’s body inside the gray 2008 Mazda 6, which was reported stolen about a month earlier — on Nov. 4 — from the 2000 block of East Third Avenue nearby, police said.

The woman suffered trauma to her body, according to a preliminary investigation, although the nature of the trauma “is still being investigated,” police said.

Police asked anyone with information about the case, including surveillance video, to call police dispatch at 311. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 907-561-STOP.

This is the 33rd homicide of 2019, not including three officer-involved shooting deaths. Most recently, Ronald Raymond, 51, died Tuesday night from “trauma to the upper body” in what police believe was an isolated incident.
