Man arrested after shooting in East Anchorage movie theater parking lot

One person is in custody after a man was shot Wednesday morning in a movie theater parking lot in East Anchorage, according to an online alert from police.

Officers were called to the Regal Totem theater parking lot on the 3100 block of Muldoon Road around 9:30 a.m. for a report of shots fired, the alert said.

Police said two groups of people began fighting about a vehicle when 26-year-old Bruce S. Mata’afa fired multiple rounds from a rifle. Mata’afa and two others fled the scene in a vehicle, according to police.

Police talked with three people in the parking lot and said that a man sitting in a red sedan had been shot in the lower body. He was taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, the alert said. (Police originally reported that two people had been shot and injured.)

Mata’afa was later arrested at his home, police said. He faces charges of second-degree assault, misconduct involving a weapon, reckless endangerment and two counts of third-degree assault, according to police.

Police said 30-year-old Christino Alavisi was contacted during the investigation and arrested on an unrelated outstanding warrant.

Anyone with information or surveillance video is asked to call dispatch at 311 or Crime Stoppers at 907-561-STOP.
