Police and fire crews responded to reports of a vehicle fire around 12:45 a.m. in a residential area near 22nd Avenue and More Street, not far from Cheney Lake Park. They found a full-size, light-colored SUV ablaze.

After the fire was out, firefighters discovered the body inside, according to the alert.

Because of the condition of the body, police were working with the state medical examiner to make a determination of the victim’s identity, gender and cause of death, according to APD spokesman MJ Thim.

Police asked anyone with information related to the incident or surveillance video of the area spanning late Thursday to early Friday to call 311 or, for anonymity, Crime Stoppers at 907-561-7867.
