Anchorage man charged in three unsolved sexual assault cases

A man was arrested Saturday evening in East Anchorage after being indicted by a grand jury for multiple felonies related to three sexual assault investigations spanning 7 years, Anchorage police said.

Alphonso L. Mosley III, 34, was taken in to custody around 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the area of Post Road and East Third Avenue, according to a police alert Monday.

Based on grand jury indictment from Aug. 8, Mosley is accused of three, first-degree sexual assaults that allegedly happened in July 2012, Sep. 2017 and May 2019 “at or near” Anchorage.

Charges for a fourth case, in 2009, were not added to Mosley’s indictment because the “victim is now deceased,” the police alert adds.

“In the fall of 2017, APD’s Special Victims Unit was assigned a sexual assault case wherein 34-year-old Alphonso L. Mosley III was identified as the suspect. As a result, Mosley’s DNA was obtained,” said police. Mosley was then linked to “unsolved local sexual assault cases in 2009 and 2012,” and later, “an unsolved 2019 sexual assault case,” according to the police alert.

APD said they believe there may be other victims and any additional information can be given to Sergeant Neer at 907-786-2471.
