2 men dead in West Anchorage shootings

Anchorage police are investigating the shooting deaths of two men found dead on a West Anchorage street Sunday evening.

At 5:10 p.m., police were called to a shots fired report on the 2800 block of West 29th Avenue, between Turnagain Street and Wisconsin Street in West Anchorage.

Officers “found two adult males shot around a vehicle parked in the street,” an Anchorage Police Department alert said. “They were pronounced dead at the scene.”

One victim was inside a Dodge pickup, which had a passenger door open. The second body was on the ground next to the truck.

Police had also pulled over a vehicle in the area thought to possibly be involved and were questioning at least one occupant, police Sgt. Bryan Ranger said at the scene.

Police had cordoned off a block of West 29th Avenue, a residential street of small apartment complexes mixed with houses just off Northern Lights Boulevard.
