Police name Anchorage man fatally shot in ‘targeted crime’ Monday

The Anchorage Police Department identified the victim of a fatal Monday shooting as 48-year-old Geoffrey Sorden.

Sorden was shot and killed Monday in an apartment at the 6000 block of Austin Street, near Old Seward Highway and Dowling Road, after an altercation that police said is believed to be related to "ongoing activity … possibly involving money or drugs."

Officers were called to the scene at 4 p.m. Monday. They arrived to find Sorden dead and a second man injured in the shooting. The injured man was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

On Tuesday, police called the shooting "targeted." Police said they were still trying to determine whether the men shot each other, how many people were inside the building at the time and what drugs were possibly involved, said APD spokesman MJ Thim.

As of Wednesday, nobody has been arrested or charged with a crime in relation to the homicide investigation, police said.
