Police name suspect in fatal Spenard parking lot shooting

Anchorage police are asking the public's help in finding a man who they say shot and killed a man Thursday near the Puffin Inn in Spenard.

Orlando G. Holder, 32, is suspected of fatally shooting 22-year-old James I. Bradley, the Anchorage Police Department said in a written statement.

A warrant has been issued for Holder's arrest. He's being charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter, and misconduct involving a weapon in the third degree, police said.

Holder was described by police as having multiple tattoos. He was last seen with long hair but may have "altered his appearance," police said.

Holder is 5-feet, 8-inches tall, 135 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes, according to police.

"No one is in custody and no arrests have been made. We are working on finding the suspects," said MJ Thim, police spokesman, on Friday morning.

"Detectives believe a group of people, who knew each other, met up in the parking lot and became involved in an altercation about an agreement between them," the department said in a statement early Friday.

Officers responded to reports of the shooting at 9:32 p.m. Thursday in the hotel parking lot and found a deceased male, according to an earlier online statement.

Well over a dozen officers and investigators responded to the shooting, with squad cars lining Spenard Road. Police tape blocked much of the Puffin Inn parking lot at 4400 Spenard Road and an apartment complex next door.

Near the hotel entrance, a woman sobbed on the ground, comforted by friends. She walked away to be interviewed by police, collapsing along the way.

Taz Melven, a clerk at the hotel, said the shooting, in the parking area near the apartments, was captured on a hotel security camera. In a room behind the front desk, several officers reviewed the video.

A guest staying on the hotel's third floor said he heard eight shots outside.

"I kind of looked out the window and saw a guy laying out there" near the apartment building, he said.

The man saw three people flee on foot, he said. A fourth drove away.

The scene from his window shortly before midnight showed that investigators had placed at least four yellow evidence markers in the parking lot.

A white tarp stretched over sawhorses. It covered the area where the victim had fallen, the man said.

Anyone with tips, including surveillance video, should call police dispatch at 311 (option 1), police said. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 907-561-7867.
