18-year-old arrested after girl wounded in ‘non-intentional’ shooting, police say

Anchorage police have charged an 18-year-old man in connection with a shooting at a Jewel Lake home Sunday that left a girl wounded.

Police are still investigating what exactly happened, but have determined it was a "non-intentional shooting," MJ Thim, police spokesman, said on Monday.

Around 1:30 p.m. Sunday, police were called to a home on the 8800 block of McClellan Circle, in a neighborhood near Dimond High School, for a reported shooting. A girl was shot in the "upper body" and taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life threatening, police said.

Police arrested Dharma Waldron. He is charged with first-degree assault, a felony, and two misdemeanors: reckless endangerment and fourth-degree misconduct involving a weapon.

Thim said he did not have additional details to release Monday about the circumstances of the shooting.

Waldron was in custody Monday at the Anchorage jail.
