APD: Man found dead after reports of gunfire; suspects at large

Update, Feb. 6:

Anchorage police identified the victim in the Jan. 28 fatal shooting as 52-year-old Carl R. Bowie Jr.

Police said they have still made no arrests in the homicide and had no additional details to release.

Original story:

A man died Sunday night in a shooting in Anchorage, police said.

Police found the man's body in a mobile home off Spenard Road north of 36th Avenue, according to MJ Thim, police spokesman.

Police said Monday they have determined the homicide is not a random crime. They believe it stemmed from a drug-related dispute, and the victim had some sort of connection with the suspect or suspects.

Thim said police started to receive 911 calls around 8:15 p.m. about gunfire near Arctic Boulevard and 36th Avenue, then additional calls about shots fired in the 3400 block of Spenard Road.

Witnesses reported hearing "multiple shots fired" and seeing "multiple people running in different directions," he said.

When police arrived at the mobile home park, they found the man's body.

Police had not made any arrests and were searching for suspects.

Thim did not immediately have suspect descriptions Sunday night. He said officers continued to talk to witnesses to gather details.
