Woman pistol-whipped, robbed in Anchorage shopping center parking lot

A woman was robbed and hit in the head with a gun in a parking lot outside of an Anchorage shopping center on Monday afternoon, police said.

"This was in broad daylight. This was a brazen attack," said MJ Thim, spokesman for the Anchorage Police Department.

The victim was robbed in the parking lot outside of Shockwave Trampoline Park, which is a next to the Northway Mall at 3101 Penland Parkway, near Merrill Field.

Just before 1 p.m., the woman was walking to her vehicle when the suspect came up behind her, demanding her purse. When she refused, he hit her with what police believe was a handgun, took her pink purse and ran off. She was treated for a minor injury on the scene, Thim said.

The woman told police he may have run southeast toward a nearby Burger King, but she was disoriented, Thim said.

The suspect was described by police as a black male in his 30s, approximately 6 feet tall, and wearing a black hoodie sweatshirt and pants.

"The suspect was dressed all in black and had a pink purse, (so) we're hoping somebody may have seen him running," Thim said in a phone call later.

Police ask that anyone with information or surveillance video call Anchorage dispatch at 907-786-8900 or leave an anonymous tip with Anchorage Crime Stoppers online or at 907-561-STOP.
