Man sought in child abduction attempt in East Anchorage

Police said a man in a maroon Jeep tried to kidnap a middle school student Friday morning while she was waiting for a school bus near the Costco in East Anchorage.

Police described the man as white and between 33 and 37, with no top teeth and rashes on his arm. He pulled up, grabbed the girl and tried to "force the student into his vehicle," police spokesman MJ Thim said in a prepared statement.

"She bites and kicks and gets away," Thim said. She then ran to Clark Middle School, about a mile away in the Mountain View neighborhood, he added.

There's no evidence that the suspect and the student knew each other, Thim said.

Police are asking anyone with information about the alleged abduction to call dispatch at 907-786-8900, or make an anonymous report to 561-STOP or online at www.anchoragecrimestoppers.com.
