Storyteller Jack Dalton gets 2 years in prison for attempted child sex abuse

Well-known Alaska storyteller Jack Dalton was sentenced Friday to two years in prison on a charge of attempted sexual abuse of a 14-year-old he met on Craigslist last year, according to Anchorage police.

Dalton originally faced two charges: second-degree sexual abuse of a minor and attempted sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree. Under a plea agreement, Dalton pleaded guilty to the charge of attempted sexual abuse of a minor.

The boy Dalton met via Craigslist had claimed online to be 19 years old and Dalton had sex with him, according to a police affidavit.

When a detective later communicated with Dalton via text message pretending to be the boy, Dalton correctly guessed the boy's age to be 14, according to the affidavit.

Dalton, who was born in Bethel, is renowned in Alaska for his storytelling, which has included the subject of sexual abuse.
