Woman dead, boyfriend wounded in South Anchorage gunfire

A 22-year-old Anchorage woman died early Wednesday and her boyfriend was severely injured in a shooting at their South Anchorage apartment that remains under investigation.

The deceased victim was identified as Brittanymae P. Haag, Anchorage Police Department spokesperson Renee Oistad said in a statement.

Officers were first informed of the shooting, on the 5600 block of Lake Otis Parkway, at about 2:20 a.m. Wednesday when Haag asked a neighbor to contact police; she was taken to a hospital, where she died.

"An adult male, who had also suffered a gunshot wound, was located inside the apartment he shared with his girlfriend Haag," Oistad wrote. "He was transported to the hospital, where he is being treated for his life-threatening injury."

Investigators "believe they have made contact with everyone involved," according to the statement. A police dispatch supervisor said earlier Wednesday that the incident was presented as a murder-suicide attempt but remained under investigation.

Asked if police had identified a shooter in the case, Oistad said its dynamics remained under investigation.

"We're still making that determination of who is responsible," Oistad said.

Oistad declined to discuss the boyfriend's condition when he was hospitalized.

Lt. John McKinnon, who oversees the APD robbery/homicide unit, said the shooting was initially reported as a disturbance. Investigators were speaking with several witnesses Wednesday, but he emphasized the incident doesn't pose any further threat to public safety.

"There's no one outstanding; there's no suspects we're looking for," McKinnon said.
