Anchorage police investigating shooting in Mountain View

Anchorage police say they're investigating a shooting with injuries in the neighborhood of Mountain View.

Sgt. Victor Dragano said numerous people called police about the shooting around 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Police investigated near Irwin Street and Thompson Avenue.

No suspects are in custody, Dragano said.

Officers received conflicting reports from people in the area. Some reported seeing someone fleeing the area on foot around the time of the shooting, and others reported a vehicle leaving, he said.

Officers continued to canvass the area to look for witnesses.

A handful of police vehicles were parked Friday on a stretch of Irwin Street, blocked off with yellow crime scene tape around 5:30 p.m., not far from a Boys and Girls Club. In the middle of the scene on the west side of the street, what appeared to be a bloodstain marked the cement, with clothing and a towel lying around the spot.

One person was taken to a local hospital, police said. The individual's injuries appeared to be serious but Dragano could not confirm if the wounds were life-threatening.

The sergeant said the individual who was shot is the best lead police currently have on the incident.

"We're hoping the person will be OK so we can talk to him," he said.
