Suspect in custody as police investigate homicide in South Anchorage

Police investigating a South Anchorage homicide say a suspect has been taken into custody.

In a brief Thursday night statement, police spokesperson Renee Oistad wrote that officers responded to the 5400 block of Trena Street shortly before 4 p.m. after a woman was reportedly found dead.

The street is located in a neighborhood off Lake Otis Parkway near Tudor Elementary School.

A single police vehicle blocked the driveway of a two-story home on Trena Street at 7 p.m. Yellow tape wrapped around trees in the home's front yard cordoned off the crime scene.

"Police are investigating the death as a homicide; a suspect is in custody and is being transported to the Anchorage Police Department for questioning," Oistad said.

The suspect was arrested outside of Lowe's on Old Seward Highway, Oistad said in an email.

Neither the woman nor the suspect was named by police.

The department said the investigation just started, and more information will be released once certain details are confirmed. As of 7:15 p.m., Oistad said interviews pertaining to the case were continuing.
