Anchorage police were investigating an early morning shooting in the Muldoon area that left one person dead and a second wounded.
Police spokeswoman Renee Oistad said one of the two victims in the shooting, reported at 1:10 a.m. Tuesday near the 100 block of Muldoon Road, had died. The victim's name was not immediately available.
It wasn't clear whether the second victim was still hospitalized, police dispatchers said earlier Tuesday.
"Details are unclear of exactly what happened before the shots were fired," police wrote in a statement. "Two individuals later arrived at a local hospital with gunshot wounds. At least one individual suffered life-threatening injuries."
Muldoon Road was closed for about two hours after the shooting as police conducted an initial investigation, dispatchers said.
Several police vehicles, including APD's crime-scene van, were at the scene of the shooting — a parking lot outside a strip mall just south of Boundary Avenue — on Tuesday morning.
Two officers walked around one of the mall's buildings looking for bullet holes, and crime-scene tape had been deployed along with several evidence markers and surveying equipment.
No arrests have so far been made in the shooting, according to the statement.
