Anchorage man gets 39 years for sexually abusing 3 girls

Reid Hayes, 27, was sentenced to nearly four decades in prison Friday for sexually abusing three girls over several years, according to the district attorney's office.

Anchorage Superior Court Judge Paul Olson handed down a sentence of 39 years against the local man, prosecutors said.

The conviction comes after a three-week jury trial in July during which Hayes was tried on multiple counts of first- and second-degree sexual abuse of a minor, and attempted counts of the same charge.

The abused girls ranged in age from 11 to 15, prosecutors said.

The 11-year-old initially reported the abuse to her aunt, and the girl's 17-year-old sister said Hayes had tried to abuse her, according to the charges. The aunt called police and an investigation began and eventually turned up that Hayes had abused at least two other girls, the charges say.

Court records show Hayes had no criminal record prior to the conviction. The court also imposed 10 years of probation upon release and registry as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
