Police seek man wanted on warrants who fled officers in Turnagain

Anchorage police are asking residents for tips on the whereabouts of a man who ran from officers early Thursday in the Turnagain area and is wanted on a series of felony arrest warrants.

Steven Treadway, 31, is named in three warrants for failure to appear in court, according to police spokesperson Jennifer Castro. He was sitting inside a vehicle in which a driver was slumped over the steering wheel near West 33rd Avenue and Turnagain Street, reported as suspicious to police at about 5:45 a.m.

"When police arrived, the passenger, later identified as Treadway, jumped out of the vehicle and ran from police through the woods," Castro wrote. "Police searched the area and were unable to locate him."

Officers spoke with the driver, Castro said, but he wasn't arrested.

"There were no signs of impairment," Castro said. "There wasn't any sign of a crime and so he was asked to move along."

Castro said Treadway is believed to frequent the Fairview and Spenard areas and has a prominent tattoo above and below his left eye.

"He's kind of an easier one to spot," Castro said.

The cases in which Treadway failed to appear include charges of burglary, theft, forgery, misconduct involving controlled substances and tampering with physical evidence. Court records show the Juneau offenses from which Treadway's warrants stem date back to 2014.

Police ask that anyone with word on Treadway's whereabouts call APD at 907-786-8900. Tips can also be left with Anchorage Crime Stoppers at 907-561-STOP or through its website.
