Troopers find drowned man's body

FINGER LAKE -- Searchers Saturday morning found the body of a Wasilla man who had disappeared earlier when the small boat he and two others were in capsized in Finger Lake, according to Alaska State Troopers.

Troopers said Jason C. Covey, 29, drowned.

Troopers said the three were in an 8-foot boat when it capsized near the shoreline about 1:23 a.m. Saturday. The two others were helped out of the water by bystanders, but Covey could not immediately be found.

The boat was loaded with equipment for an overnight camping trip, troopers said. The gear did not include personal flotation devices, nor were any of the three in the boat, including a 7-year-old, wearing one, troopers said.

Searchers from the Mat-Su Borough Dive Team found Covey's body at 11:36 a.m. about 20 feet from the shore.
