Selkregg's proposed soft drink tax falls flat

A proposal to tax soft drinks failed to win enough support Tuesday night on the Anchorage Assembly for introduction. The measure fizzled after only brief discussion among Assembly members. Assemblywoman Sheila Selkregg had proposed the tax, which would have amounted to 2 cents on a can of soda and 4 cents for larger liter containers. Mayor Dan Sullivan and was among those who came down early in opposition to the proposal.
