The long-running hit Broadway musical "The Lion King" will have a six-week run in Anchorage late next year.
The show will open with previews on Sept. 2 and run through Oct. 11.
At a press event today in Atwood Concert Hall, Jack Lucas, president of WestCoast Entertainment of Spokane, Wash., which will be presenting the show in conjunction with the Anchorage Concert Association and Disney Theatrical Group, told a crowd of several hundred people that it was "the largest entertainment production to ever come to the state of Alaska" and would also have the longest run of any touring show to come to the state.
Group sales of 20 tickets or more will begin Friday at the CenterTix box office at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts. Call 263-2787 for more information.
People who are season subscribers to the concert association's "Broadway and Beyond" series this year will have priority access to tickets when they renew their subscription for next year. To subscribe to this year's series - which includes "Spamalot" - call 272-1471 or inquire by e-mail at info@anchorageconcerts.org.
Single-ticket sales will become available sometime next spring. Tickets run from $22.50 to $85, with "premium packages" - which include souvenirs - going for $135.
